Internet in St Kitts & Nevis: coverage rings two volcanoes
Both islands in this federation are volcanic cones, and that single fact explains the coverage map. Flow and Digicel install along the coastal belt where the towns, beaches and roads are, so the network is effectively a ring around each peak rather than a blanket over it. Walk uphill and you leave it, usually at around the point the rainforest closes overhead. Everything else about connectivity here is straightforward: one country code covers both islands, so one plan does too.
- ●On St Kitts, Basseterre and the Southeast Peninsula are reliable, as is Brimstone Hill Fortress on its bluff above the west coast. The St Kitts Scenic Railway, which loops the island, alternates by aspect: good on the leeward side, thinner on the windward stretches. Mount Liamuiga, at 1,150 metres, drops out well before the crater rim.
- ●On Nevis the pattern repeats in miniature. Charlestown and Pinney's Beach are covered, and the island road holds a signal for nearly its whole circuit, which makes taxi navigation easy. Nevis Peak, frequently in cloud, loses the network inside the forest.
- ●Cruise days are the one capacity wrinkle. When ships are in at Basseterre, several thousand people land in a small town and all reach for the same cells at once, so speeds dip near the port in the middle of the day. Away from the terminal it is unaffected.

Frequently asked questions
Does one plan cover both islands?
Yes. St Kitts and Nevis share the KN country code, so a single list entry covers both and your phone moves between them with no charge and no action from you.
Is there signal on the ferry?
Almost the whole way, since the strait is only about three kilometres wide. The handover between the two islands' cells mid-crossing can drop a call in progress, though.
Will I have coverage hiking Mount Liamuiga?
Not near the top. The signal goes once the rainforest closes in, and the crater has nothing. Download your trail maps beforehand.
Why is it slower near the cruise port?
Cruise arrivals put several thousand extra users on the same cells in a small town, so midday speeds around Basseterre dip. It clears away from the terminal.
How much data for a week?
5 GB comfortably covers maps, messaging, bookings and photos across both islands. Step up to 10 GB if you share a lot of video.
