Internet in the Turks & Caicos: the cruise ship is the capacity story
Eight of the roughly forty islands here are inhabited, and most of the people, hotels and towers are on Providenciales. That makes coverage easy to predict: dense where there is a settlement, absent where there is not. The one thing that moves day to day is capacity on Grand Turk, where a cruise terminal can land several thousand passengers onto a town of a few thousand residents. On those mornings the network around Cockburn Town is carrying many times its usual load, and it shows.
- ●Providenciales is the reliable island. Grace Bay, the resorts, the airport and the main roads all work without thinking about it, and this is where almost all visitors spend most of their time. Grand Turk and Cockburn Town are properly served too, outside the cruise-day peaks.
- ●North Caicos and Middle Caicos, joined by a causeway, have genuine but thinner coverage, concentrated around the settlements and the main road. Conch Bar Caves is naturally dead inside. West Caicos has no permanent population and therefore nothing to attach to, which is worth knowing before a day trip out there.
- ●Hurricane season runs June to November, and a low, flat archipelago feels it. Inter-island ferries and light flights are the first things to go. Download maps, schedules and booking confirmations while you are on Provo rather than relying on finding a signal somewhere else.

Frequently asked questions
Will my UK plan cover the Turks & Caicos?
No. It is a British Overseas Territory with its own country code and separate roaming agreements, so plans sold for the United Kingdom exclude it.
Is coverage the same across the islands?
No. Providenciales is strongest, Grand Turk solid, North and Middle Caicos thinner, and Salt Cay minimal. One plan still covers all of them.
Why is Grand Turk slow some mornings?
Cruise arrivals put thousands of extra devices on a small town's cells at once. Speeds recover once the ship leaves, and away from the terminal it is unaffected.
Is there signal on the uninhabited cays?
Usually not. Towers follow permanent settlement, so cays with nobody living on them have nothing. Download offline maps before a boat day.
How much data for a week?
5 GB comfortably covers maps, messaging, bookings and photos. Go to 10 GB if you work from Provo or share a lot of video.
