Internet in Bermuda: the island where your phone replaces the rental car
Bermuda does something almost no other destination does: it refuses to rent you a car. Private vehicles are reserved for residents, and visitors move by public bus, ferry, taxi, scooter or on foot. That single rule changes what a data connection is worth here. Timetables, route maps and the Hamilton to Dockyard ferry schedule all live online, and a day of sightseeing is really a day of connections. The good news is that the network holds up: two carriers, One Communications and Digicel, cover a chain of islands totalling roughly 21 square miles, with submarine cable landings and solid mobile performance for a territory this size (source: ITU DataHub).
- ●Coverage follows the spine of the island, from Saint George's and its old town in the east through Hamilton and the central parishes to the Royal Naval Dockyard in the west. The south shore beaches are well served, Horseshoe Bay and Jobson's Cove included, as is Gibbs Hill Lighthouse. Two places behave differently: Crystal Cave, where an underground chamber predictably ends the signal, and Nonsuch Island, a restricted nature reserve where the network is not what you should be navigating by.
- ●The Railway Trail, 18 miles of former railway bed turned walking route, runs through the interior rather than along the coast. Wooded cuttings soften the signal without killing it, but a map downloaded before you set off beats loading tiles section by section. The same applies at Tobacco Bay, where snorkelling and a phone in hand are a poor combination whatever the signal strength.
- ●One administrative point is worth knowing before you buy. Bermuda is a British Overseas Territory with its own country code, so it is not inside a United Kingdom bundle, and it sits in the North Atlantic rather than the Caribbean Sea, so regional Caribbean plans usually leave it out as well. Three reasonable assumptions, three ways to arrive without service.

Price per GB in Bermuda: what our data shows
According to the Datadopt Observatory, the lowest price per GB recorded in Bermuda comes down to 0.42 €/GB, across a sample of 365 fixed-volume offers retained for the measurement. That floor is reached on large data bundles : a 5 GB plan over 30 days costs noticeably more per GB. The real differentiator is still the depth of the offer : the more plans compete, the easier it is to find the duration and data volume that fit your trip.

Frequently asked questions
Why does data matter so much in Bermuda?
Because visitors cannot rent a car. You travel by bus, ferry, taxi or scooter, and those timetables and route maps are online. A connection here does the job a rental car does elsewhere.
Does a Caribbean eSIM plan cover Bermuda?
Usually not. Bermuda is in the North Atlantic, roughly 900 miles off North Carolina and well over a thousand miles from the Caribbean Sea, so regional Caribbean bundles tend to exclude it.
Is it inside a United Kingdom plan?
No. Bermuda is a British Overseas Territory with its own country code and its own roaming agreements, so a UK bundle does not automatically reach it.
Which carriers serve the islands?
One Communications and Digicel. Your eSIM attaches to whichever one your provider has an agreement with, with nothing to configure.
How much data for a week?
5 to 10 GB comfortably covers maps, ferry schedules, messaging and photos. Budget more if you intend to work or run video calls from the island.
