Internet in Uzbekistan: everything you need to know
Uzbekistan has roughly 78 % internet penetration and over 85 % 4G mobile coverage (source: ITU DataHub, 2024). 5G is still nascent (Tashkent, Samarkand). Beeline, Ucell and Mobiuz dominate the consumer market ; Uztelecom (the state incumbent) is also present.
- ●4G coverage in all major cities (Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, Andijan, Fergana) and along main highways. Patchier on the Pamir highway, across the Kyzylkum desert and around Lake Aydar. Karakalpakstan (Nukus, Aral Sea) : decent signal in town, weaker elsewhere.
- ●Average mobile speed ~25–40 Mbps download per Ookla (Q1 2025).
- ●Some services are occasionally filtered (TikTok partially blocked since 2024, Skype/VoIP sometimes degraded). WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram work normally. A travel eSIM uses international routing and bypasses most filters.
- ●Great for Yandex Go (taxis), Click / Payme (dominant local mobile money), Google Maps, offline Maps.me and Telegram (heavily used for business and hotel contacts).

Frequently asked questions
Does the eSIM really work in Uzbekistan?
Yes. International eSIMs connect to Beeline UZ, Ucell or Mobiuz on landing at Tashkent (TAS), Samarkand (SKD) or Bukhara (BHK). No passport registration required (unlike a local SIM).
How much data for 2 weeks?
For a Tashkent + Samarkand + Bukhara + Khiva circuit, plan 5–8 GB : Maps, Yandex Go, cloud photos, WhatsApp and some streaming. More if you do video calls.
Are TikTok and other apps accessible?
TikTok has been partially blocked in Uzbekistan since 2024 on the local network. With a travel eSIM using an international APN, access is usually still possible. Other networks (Instagram, WhatsApp, Telegram, X) work normally.
Can I use my European plan in Uzbekistan?
Non-EU roaming is charged at premium rates (up to €10/MB). Check ; otherwise a travel eSIM is much cheaper.
Can I share the connection with other devices?
Most Uzbekistan eSIM plans allow hotspot : the field is listed on each Datadopt offer detail page.
