Uzbekistan has roughly 78% internet penetration and over 85% 4G mobile coverage (source: ITU DataHub, 2024). 5G is still nascent (Tashkent, Samarkand). Beeline, Ucell and Mobiuz dominate the consumer market ; Uztelecom (the state incumbent) is also present.
- ●4G coverage in all major cities (Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, Andijan, Fergana) and along main highways. Patchier on the Pamir highway, across the Kyzylkum desert and around Lake Aydar. Karakalpakstan (Nukus, Aral Sea) : decent signal in town, weaker elsewhere.

Uzbekistan is dry and continental: fierce summers, biting winters, and two shoulder seasons that hold almost all the appeal. The classic route runs by train, which spares you the driving but not the heat.
April, May, June
The spring window, and the strongest. Temperatures let you walk the old towns of Bukhara and Khiva all day, and the countryside is green before it burns off.
September and October
The other good window, and the better one for markets: melon, grape and pomegranate season. Nights cool off sharply through October.
July and August
Dry heat past the point of comfort in the middle of the day, worst in Khiva and the south. Sightseeing happens before ten and after five, the rest in shade.
November to March
Winter is cold and sometimes snowy, and the great monuments are nearly empty. The trade-off is short days and some regional connections running irregularly.

Registan Square
Three monumental madrasas facing each other across a plaza, sheathed in blue tilework, at the centre of Samarkand. The best served and best covered site in the country.
Shah-i-Zinda Necropolis
A lane of mausoleums pressed shoulder to shoulder, each portal carrying a different tile scheme. In Samarkand, with complete coverage.
Itchan Kala of Khiva
Khiva's inner town, entirely enclosed by mud walls, with squat minarets and madrasa courtyards. Compact, walkable and well covered.
Poi Kalyan Complex
A twelfth-century brick minaret left standing when everything around it was levelled, flanked by a mosque and a madrasa that answer each other. Central Bukhara, solid network.
Ark Fortress of Bukhara
The emirs' citadel, massive and bulging, still looming over the town from its packed-earth mound. Easy access, complete coverage.
Chorsu Bazaar
Tashkent's great covered market under its blue dome: spices, round breads, meat and melon stalls over several levels. Metro at the door, excellent network.
Aral Sea Ship Cemetery
Trawler hulls stranded in sand at Moynaq, where the sea withdrew by tens of kilometres. Deeply remote: do not count on a signal along the road.
Nuratau Mountains
Mountain villages running homestays between the steppe and the ridgeline, roughly halfway from Samarkand. Patchy signal in the valleys.
