Laos has roughly 67 % internet penetration and over 85 % 4G mobile coverage (source: ITU DataHub, 2024). Unitel (a Viettel subsidiary) has the best rural footprint, followed by Lao Telecom and ETL. 5G is nascent in Vientiane only.
- ●4G coverage in all cities (Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng, Pakse, Savannakhet, Phonsavan) and along Route 13 (Vientiane-Luang Prabang-Boten). Decent around the 4000 Islands (Don Det, Don Khon, Don Khong : Unitel covers most of it). Patchier on the Bolaven Plateau (Pakse → Tad Lo, Tad Fane : signal in villages), Nong Khiaw, Muang Ngoy and the Thakhek loop (Konglor cave).
