Internet in Cyprus: everything you need to know
The Republic of Cyprus (an EU member) relies on three carriers: Cyta, Epic and PrimeTel. 4G covers almost the entire south of the island and Cyta's 5G the urban and coastal areas. Internet penetration exceeds 90 % (source: ITU DataHub, 2024). One unique quirk: the island is divided, and the north escapes both Cypriot networks AND EU roaming.
- ●Excellent 4G/5G coverage in Nicosia (south), Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos and Ayia Napa. Very decent in the Troodos mountains; a few isolated valleys drop to 3G.
- ●Average mobile speed around 60–100 Mbps download (Ookla, 2025).
- ●No blocked services: Google, WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, Netflix work normally.
- ●WATCH OUT for the north (TRNC, unrecognised): networks there are Turkish (Turkcell KKTC, Vodafone KKTC), outside EU roaming and outside most "Cyprus" eSIM coverage. Even in Nicosia, walking near the Green Line can flip your phone onto a Turkish network billed at premium rates.
