The Philippines have roughly 73% internet penetration and 4G mobile coverage exceeding 95% of the population (source: ITU DataHub, 2024). 5G is deployed by Globe, Smart and Dito in Manila, Cebu City and around major hubs. The 7,641-island archipelago makes rural coverage very uneven.

December to April is the dry season, when the sea is calm and crossings are reliable: it is the country's window. June to November brings the monsoon and the typhoons in succession, and island hopping becomes a bet on the weather.
English is an official language
Signage, menus, government forms and most conversations work in English, which makes the Philippines one of the easiest countries in the region to travel without preparation. Filipino is the other official language.
Typhoons cancel boats before planes
Around twenty systems cross the archipelago each year, mostly July to October and mostly in the north and east. The coastguard suspends ferries long before the weather looks dramatic, and that is what breaks an itinerary.
Coverage is counted by people, not by islands

Cash still rules outside the cities
Manila and Cebu take cards everywhere, but the islands run on cash and their ATMs are scarce and capped. Withdraw before you board, not after.
Iconic sites and coverage
Chocolate Hills
More than a thousand near-identical limestone mounds on Bohol, which turn brown in the dry season and give the site its name. Two built viewpoints give the overview, and the rest is covered by scooter.
Banaue Rice Terraces
Terraces cut by hand into the Luzon mountains two thousand years ago, still farmed by Ifugao families. The trip from Manila is an overnight bus, and signal drops in the valleys.
El Nido Lagoons
Karst cliffs and enclosed lagoons in northern Palawan, visited by outrigger on tours lettered A to D. The dry season governs everything, and the network ends as you leave the harbour.
Intramuros
The walled Spanish city at the heart of Manila, with San Agustin church and Fort Santiago. It was almost entirely destroyed in 1945 and rebuilt piecemeal, which shows from one street to the next.
Mayon Volcano
The country's most perfect cone, above Legazpi, and one of its most active: the danger zones shift with the activity. The climb is often closed, but the Cagsawa ruins give the classic view.
Tubbataha Reefs
A remote atoll in the Sulu Sea, reachable only by liveaboard from mid-March to mid-June. There is no inhabited island, no network and no way off: offline is total for several days.
Siargao Cloud Nine
The country's benchmark wave, a reef barrel with a wooden viewing jetty, best from September to November. The island lives on surfing, and signal is fine in the village but unreliable at the breaks.
Kawasan Falls
Stepped turquoise pools in southern Cebu, the finish of the archipelago's busiest canyoneering route. Access is on foot from the road, and early slots avoid the crowd.
