Internet in Morocco: everything you need to know
Morocco has 91% internet penetration and over 99% 4G mobile coverage (source: ITU DataHub, 2024). 5G launched late 2024 in Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech and Tangier. An eSIM connects to Maroc Telecom (IAM), Orange Maroc or Inwi on landing at RAK, CMN or FEZ.
- ●4G coverage in all major cities (Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, Fez, Tangier, Agadir, Essaouira) and along the A1/A3/A7 motorways ; weaker but present in the High Atlas, Middle Atlas and Sahara tracks (Merzouga, Erg Chebbi).
- ●Average mobile speed ~40–55 Mbps download per Ookla (Q1 2025) ; Maroc Telecom has the widest rural footprint.
- ●IMPORTANT : VoIP (WhatsApp Voice, FaceTime, Skype) is blocked at the network level since 2016. A VPN bypasses it. WhatsApp text/media works normally.
- ●Great for Careem, Heetch (Casa/Rabat), Glovo, Google Maps, M-Wallet and CIH Bank / Attijariwafa banking apps.
