Internet in Israel: everything you need to know
Israel has four national networks: Pelephone, Cellcom, Partner and HOT Mobile. 4G is excellent nationwide, 5G is rolling out in the big cities, and internet penetration exceeds 90% (source: ITU DataHub, 2024). EU roaming does not apply: without an eSIM, data gets expensive.
- ●Excellent 4G in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, Eilat and along the highways. 5G covers the main urban areas. On Negev roads and around the Dead Sea, signal follows the main routes; it weakens in wadis and isolated hikes (Masada at dawn: decent coverage at the top).
- ●Average mobile speed around 50–90 Mbps download (Ookla, 2025).
- ●No blocked services: Google, WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, Netflix work normally. WhatsApp is the country's dominant communication channel.
- ●Handy for Moovit (transit, locally essential), Gett (taxis), Google Maps and bookings. Nothing cuts out during Shabbat: public transport stops, the network does not.

Frequently asked questions
Does the eSIM really work in Israel?
Yes. Israel travel eSIMs ride on Pelephone, Cellcom, Partner or HOT Mobile, with excellent national coverage. Check the partner network in each offer's detail on Datadopt.
Does my European plan work in Israel?
Israel is outside the EU roaming zone: data is billed at international rates. A prepaid eSIM is far cheaper from the first days.
Does the eSIM cover Bethlehem and the West Bank?
Partially. The West Bank is served by Palestinian carriers (Jawwal, Ooredoo PS): most "Israel" eSIMs only pick up where Israeli signal reaches. For a mixed itinerary, check the offer's coverage or take a regional eSIM.
How much data for a week in Israel?
Plan 3–6 GB: Maps, Moovit, WhatsApp, photos and some streaming. More if you remote-work from Tel Aviv.
Does the network work during Shabbat?
Yes, the mobile network runs normally 7 days a week. During Shabbat (Friday evening to Saturday evening), public transport and many shops stop, the internet does not.
