Iraq has roughly 75–80% internet penetration, with mobile coverage from three carriers: Zain Iraq and Asiacell (the two largest) and Korek Telecom (particularly present in the Kurdistan Region). 4G rolled out from 2021 and commercial 5G is not yet widespread (trials underway). The autonomous Kurdistan Region (Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Duhok) often benefits from more stable infrastructure.

During the major Shia pilgrimages (Arbaeen in Karbala and Najaf), one of the world's largest gatherings, networks heavily saturate around the holy sites.
