Internet in Ireland: everything you need to know
Ireland has 96% internet penetration and over 99% 4G+ mobile coverage (source: ITU DataHub, 2024). 5G is live in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick and Waterford. The Republic of Ireland is in the EU roaming zone : your EU plan roams at home rates. HEADS-UP : Northern Ireland (UK) is a separate tariff zone post-Brexit.
- ●4G+ coverage in all cities (Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford, Kilkenny) and along the M50, M7, M8 motorways ; decent on the Wild Atlantic Way (Cliffs of Moher, Connemara, Donegal) and Wicklow Mountains, patchier in the Burren and Aran Islands.
- ●Average mobile speed ~70–90 Mbps download per Ookla (Q1 2025).
- ●No Western services blocked : Google, WhatsApp, Instagram, X, YouTube and Netflix work normally.
- ●Great for FREE NOW (Dublin taxis), Bolt, Just Eat, Google Maps, TFI Live (transport app) and AIB / Bank of Ireland / Revolut mobile banking.

Price per GB in Ireland: what our data shows
According to the Datadopt Observatory, the lowest price per GB recorded in Ireland comes down to 0.07 €/GB, across a sample of 2,735 fixed-volume offers retained for the measurement. That floor is reached on large data bundles : a 5 GB plan over 30 days costs noticeably more per GB. Frequently asked questions
Does the eSIM really work in Ireland?
Yes. International eSIMs connect to Three Ireland, Vodafone IE or Eir on landing at Dublin (DUB), Cork (ORK) or Shannon (SNN). 4G+ coverage everywhere.
Does my EU plan work in Ireland?
Republic of Ireland : yes, EU roaming zone (4 months max at home rates). Northern Ireland (UK) : NO since Brexit, billed out-of-zone. An "Ireland + UK" regional eSIM handles the border smoothly.
How much data for 7 days Dublin-Wild Atlantic Way?
Plan for 3–5 GB : Maps, FREE NOW, cloud photos, messages. More if you stream (Irish weather = lots of indoor time).
Is there signal on the Wild Atlantic Way?
Excellent on the Galway-Connemara-Westport stretch. Patchier on the Skellig Ring, Aran Islands (decent on Inishmore, weaker on Inishmaan/Inisheer) and the Beara Peninsula. Download offline Maps.
Can I share the connection with other devices?
Most Ireland eSIM plans allow hotspot : the field is listed on each Datadopt offer detail page.
